In line with state and county reopening efforts, effective July 6, 2021, we will fully reopen to serve you with no appointment needed. Appointments remain available for passport services only. You can visit our locations any time during business hours. We look forward to serving you! Driver's licenses, ID card and instruction permits can be renewed, replaced, updated, upgraded and applied for for the first time at the Washington County License Centers located in Forest Lake, Stillwater and Woodbury. The county license centers are not exam facilities and we are unable to offer knowledge or road tests or reinstate suspended or revoked driver's licenses.
Real ID ExtensionDue to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has extended the REAL ID full enforcement deadline to May 3, 2023. If you do not have a REAL ID compliant driver's license or ID card and wish to obtain one, it is recommended that you get one as your driver's licenseexpires if it is before May 3, 2023. Driver's License Knowledge (Written) and Road TestingKnowledge and road tests for Class D licenses are available at a State of MN - Driver and Vehicle Services Exam Station. The Stillwater testing facility remains closed. Schedule an appointment at a DVS Exam Station. Minnesota has three driver's license and ID options to choose from:
REAL ID Compliant Driver's License or ID Card
Enhanced Driver's License or ID Card
Standard Driver's License or ID Card

Save time, pre-applyPrior to your visit, pre-apply for your driver's license or ID card. You will still need to visit our office to complete the process. Please bring your confirmation page/number and all original documents listed on it to our office.

Fees vary based on the type of and class of license. See a list of current driver's license fees.
Acceptable forms of payment include cash, check, credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express). A 2.49% service fee will be added to the transaction amount if you choose to use a credit or debit card.
