During his 24 years of service with Washington County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Dan Starry has served in a multitude of roles including: Deputy Sheriff Field Training Officer, DARE Instructor, Crime Prevention Officer, Youth Unit Investigator, Narcotics Officer, K-9 Handler (with his partner Smokey), Patrol Sergeant, and Commander.
Sheriff Starry was appointed chief deputy by Sheriff Bill Hutton in 2010.
His wide variety of work and experience has enabled him to become knowledgeable in financial administration, program development, strategic planning, policy development, leadership, crisis management, staff training, and relationship building.
Sheriff Starry has a bachelor of science degree from St. Mary’s University. He attended the FBI National Academy #250, and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association program. Sheriff Starry serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Washington County East and on the Executive Board for the North Central High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas.
