Central Yard Waste Site Update
Dear Resident,
Thank you for participating in our public engagement process related to the need to develop a plan for collecting and processing yard waste in the county. Washington County gathered community feedback from June 24 through Aug. 8, 2022, regarding the proposed Central Yard Waste Transfer site in Baytown Township. The county used multiple online resources, a direct mailer to local residents, and an in-person Open House to gather information. The county received more than 600 survey responses and more than 80 in-person residents for the Open House at the Baytown Township Town Hall.
Based on feedback, the majority of you (71%) indicated you had a need for yard waste site drop-off services and, if provided, you would use the service. However, many of the residents adjacent to the proposed location expressed their opposition to the location. On Aug. 12, the Baytown Town Board sent a letter to the county expressing its formal opposition to a yard waste transfer site on Mendell Avenue in Baytown Township. As a result, the county is no longer considering that site.
The county values the feedback provided by residents and understands that the program and services are desired and plan to use the data gathered from the survey to evaluate future opportunities. Our goal will be to align our site search with the changing needs of the program and provide equitable services to county residents.
Sincerely,
The Washington County Project Team
